How the Belhelvie Community Council is organised


Roles and responsibilities


We have up to 16 Community Councillors.  All members have responsbility for the Community Council's decisions and actions.  

The Chairperson, a Treasurer and Secretary also have responsibility for the efficient and effective operation of the Community Council.

Local planning

Community councils have a statutory right to be consulted on applications for planning permission.   The Belhelvie Community Council receives feedback about local planning applications at each meeting from the Council member responsible for planning.

Governance - Aberdeenshire Council's Scheme of Establishment 

All community councils operate within the terms of a scheme of establishment.  The scheme of establishment for Aberdeenshire covers the purpose, role and responsibilities, establishment, elections, membership, meetings, work with the Council and financial management expected from it's Community Councils.

The Belhelvie Community Council is run in accordance with the Aberdeenshire Council Scheme for the Establishment of Community Councils, the scheme is available to download from the Aberdeenshire Council website here..
